ROCHELLE COHEN FELDMAN-BREITBART, M.D.

I graduated Smith College in 1972 with Majors in Biochemistry and Religion with field study in Judaica.  University of Michigan Medical School 1971-1975 ( I did my senior year of college at Medical School), M.D. 1975.  Pediatric Residency UCLA 1975-1978.  Neonatology fellowship 1979-1981.  Pediatric Neuropathology UCLA and CHLA 1981-1984.

Since then, I have practiced general Pediatrics and Neonatology continuously.  In my current practice, Prima Pediatrics, which I own, I specialize in children with chronic complex pediatric diseases and am also a practicing Neonatologist at Northridge Hospital.  In addition, I am one of the Pediatric Hospitalists at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and provide a range of medlegal services, including consultant to Edelman’s Children’s Court, expert witness work as well.

I’m an FFB, having been raised in Detroit and gone to Yeshiva Bais Yehuda.  Being frum was a significant challenge in Medical School and residency, but I stuck with it.  I was fortunate enough to have 3 wonderful children, all of whom went to Yeshiva through High school and are each frum in their own households.  Moreover, they have provided my husband Aaron and me  with 12 gorgeous grandchildren.

Both  my experiences in my  profession and as a mother and grandmother (I’m a Bubby) have given me an extraordinary viewpoint of my faith and my religious practice, allowing me to appreciate my faith in Hashem.

Following are some interesting topics from my own experience:

1.        How making notes on Shabbos with a shinui saved me from a malpractice suit.

2.       Being mekarev my aunt enabled me to save thousands of lives.

3.       The importance of halachic autopsies.

4.       Changing reproductive halacha regarding disabled kids.
